The human society and its environments ( HSIE) faculty offers a wide selection of courses which have relevance for all students in today’s society whether they pursue academic studies or vocational training. The future world of work will require young people who can communicate and have enquiring minds, solve problems, work in teams, are multi-skilled and adaptable and have an appreciation of social responsibility, ethical behaviour and respect for differing viewpoints.
Courses offered through HSIE are deeply satisfying and stimulating. They aim to equip young people with the skills and knowledge necessary to become informed and active citizens, confident and self- aware individuals.
Subjects available in the junior school at Mullumbimby High School include history, geography, Indonesian, commerce, international studies, work education and a careers programme. In the senior school, students can elect to study one or more of the courses on offer. These include Aboriginal studies, modern history, ancient history, extension history, business studies, legal studies, society and culture, Indonesian and work studies.
The faculty strives to provide a learning environment that is both meaningful and engaging and one that caters for the needs of the students.
